Acting Deputy Director, VA Patient Experience, Veterans Experience Office US Department of Veterans Affairs
Abby Sanford is the acting Deputy Director of the Veterans Experience Office VA Patient Experience program, which has worked to define, design and is currently deploying the VA PX framework and solutions across the Veterans Health Administration. Ms. Sanford joined the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2016 and has over 17 years of experience in change management, program management, performance analysis, and process and systems alignment, served mostly within or for the federal government. Prior to joining the VA, Ms. Sanford managed intergovernmental and public affairs issues for US Citizenship and Immigration Services in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her service to the Department of Homeland Security began in Washington, DC, where she led process and systems change programs with the Office of Transformation Coordination. She also served the US Department of Justice, Labor and Defense in a variety of organizational transformation and systems improvement roles. Her breadth of experience includes technical process development, strategic communications, major events production, and coalition-building. She holds a Master of Arts in National Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The George Washington University.
